Zach Proffitt is a self-taught photographer and alternative process printmaker based in Colorado’s Front Range. He works primarily with cyanotype and photogravure and contributes to limited-edition fine-press books in collaboration with private presses.
His recent project, Wuduland (2023–2025), is a sustained photographic series made in an intimate Pacific Northwest woodland using long exposure and camera gesture. The work creates conditions where the forest, animated by natural light and shadow, gives rise to pareidolic suggestions of faces or other presences. Rather than documenting a landscape, Wuduland lingers in ambiguity, where imagination awakens as certainty fades. Select works from the series will appear in a forthcoming limited-edition fine-press book from No Reply Press.
